When should I expect a response from my application to a job?

If you apply through Novo’s website you should receive an automated response. Once submitted to a position you will typically only be contacted if you meet the criteria the recruiter is seeking (sometimes not all criteria is listed on the job description). In most cases, if you do meet the criteria you should expect to hear back within a few days.

Can I expect career advice or resume writing tips from a Novo recruiter?

Don’t expect recruiters to be career coaches.  Those people are out there, too.  These specialized coaches are professionals and can help more than a recruiter, especially when career direction is involved.

Will the Novo recruiter help me find a job that suits me?

Before engaging with any recruiter, realize that the recruiter’s role is to serve the companies that pay him or her.  The recruiter’s primary role is to find the very best candidate for a job, not work with the candidate to search for the perfect role and work to place them.

Communication – How often should I check in with my recruiter?

Stay in touch with your recruiter, but not too often.  He/she may not be able to follow-up as often with you as you’d like, but you certainly can keep the line of communication open from your end (especially when there is recent activity to follow-up on).  Many appreciate emails over phone calls so they can manage their day better.  Communication is essential when your situation changes (i.e., another job offer pending).

I am working with multiple recruiters – should I tell my Novo recruiter?

Yes – Novo’s philosophy is one of transparency. The best candidates are the most honest candidates.

Communication - Is it appropriate to follow-up every email with a phone call?

No. Everyone has their preferences for communication but to double up each time you reach out to your recruiter is unnecessary.

I have submitted my resume and it appears that my credentials fit the role – will I get a call back?

Maybe. Sometimes the posted positions do not list every qualification or filter criteria that the position entails, other times there is a large influx of candidates that more closely fit the job history the role requires. In any case if the recruiter is interested they will reach out to you.

I submitted my resume – why is no-one getting back to me?

You may not fit the basic qualifications of the role, or perhaps do not fit some of the additional filter criteria. In other instances there may be a huge influx of candidates applying that better fit what the recruiter is looking for. Just because you don’t get a call or email back don’t stop applying to new roles.

When I call my recruiter he/she does not immediately remember who I am? Is this a sign of a bad recruiter?

Good recruiters talk with a lot of people each week.  Give them a little time to refresh their mind on your last conversations.  The very best recruiters are super organized and can reference all notes and activity regarding you and the jobs your are working on together – however they engage with hundreds of candidates every week – this is why they may need to look you up in their tracking system to refresh their memory.

How can I help my recruiter – returning the favor?

Refer your recruiter to those you know that have hiring needs!

I want more information on the position than is posted – should I contact the recruiter before I apply?

Recruiters are not a substitute for homework. The one-pager they post describing the position is not intended to be all encompassing so show them that you can dig… use the internet, your network, etc and research the role. THEN determine if you are qualified and last FOLLOW THE PROCESS by applying to the job

Applying – I see that a job is not confidentially posted – why not just contact the company HR department directly instead of trying to apply to the job or work with a recruiter?

Employers utilize Novo for a number of reasons. First they most likely don’t have the band-with to handle all the positions so this route only bogs them down – and you will end up having to go back through Novo regardless. Second, utilizing Novo allows companies to keep things objective as Novo’s only objective is to hire the best for them – NOT hire the person the best connected.

I have talked with a recruiter that has told me they are waiting to hear back from the client – are they just pushing me off?

Novo does its best to keep all parties involved on task however sometimes Hiring Managers do not have the time to immediately respond – at times even over a week or longer. If a Novo recruiter says they are waiting – they really are waiting.

I submitted my resume to a job and I want to remain confidential – how can I accomplish that?

Novo NEVER submits candidate information to clients until the candidate has been contacted in regards to a position. We value trust above all else – both that of our candidates and that of our clients

How do I submit a resume?

Go to the Careers section of our website: simply fill in your contact information, upload a resume and or submit a cover letter. If you want to submit yourself for a posted position you may submit directly to that position or, once you have registered you can submit without having to re-enter your information.

Can I submit my resume in person?

No. Novo currently requires all candidates to submit interest via our careersite.

If I have trouble completing my profile and/or application online, is there another way to submit my information?

If you have trouble submitting your resume go to the Contact Us section on the site and click on the Novo Help section. Explain the issue you are having and someone will get back to you within 48 hours.

Can I submit my information without applying for a position?

Yes. You may register as a candidate on the career site without being submitted to a position. In doing so you are searchable by all recruiters for any position.

What are the basic requirements for being considered for any role other than what is listed in the posting?

Each search is different – and the criteria vary for every role. Most of the major qualifications required for a role are posted but not always. If you are not contacted about a role you submitted yourself to it is likely your may not have fit some of the minor qualifications that may or may not be posted.

Will I be considered for other positions when applying for a specific position?

Initially you will not be considered for other roles. Novo fosters an environment of mutual respect between its recruiters. Until you are no longer being considered for a role you will most likely not be contacted by other recruiters for other roles.

How often can I update my profile?

You can update your profile as often as you like – though we don’t recommend doing so more than once a quarter unless you have had major changes in your employment status, etc.

What happens to my resume after it's been submitted?

Your information is stored in our secure tracking system where it is searchable by all recruiters. If you have submitted yourself to a specific position the recruiter receives a notification informing them you are now part of the candidate pool and available for contact.

Is my information confidential?

Yes. Novo respects all candidates just as much as we respect the privacy and confidentiality of our clients. Novo does not solicit business with candidate information either so anyone in our database can rest assured their information is private.

Will you submit me to companies or Hiring Managers without my consent?

Never. Because Novo does not operate like a contingent or staffing firm a thorough evaluation over the phone or in person is conducted before a candidate is ever “presented” as a viable option.

After I submit my profile and/or application will I receive a response?

Novo provides an automatic response to all submissions as a way to confirm to our applicants we have received their information.

Will I hear back from a Recruiter?

You will typically only be contacted by a recruiter if you match the basic qualifications and are being considered to interview for the position.

How soon will I hear from someone if I am being considered for a position?

Typically our recruiters are able to respond within 72 hours of resume submission but every project is different. Due to large numbers of applicants or other factors such as a project being more about long term pipelining for a role a recruiter may not reach out right away.

Will I hear back from a Recruiter if I am not being considered for a role for which I have applied?

Not necessarily. Recruiters will typically only reach out if they are interested in moving forward with you. The exception is if you are moving forward in the process and have interviewed with the client. At this point they will offer up a courtesy call to let you know the outcome of the interview.

Can I be notified if there are new positions that fit my skill set?

Novo does not currently have the ability to auto-notify candidates when positions are posted that may fit their background. However Novo recruiters search our database for each project; if they see a match in your skills they will reach out to you.
